Jersey City Councilman-at-Large Daniel Rivera is backing the “Education Matters” board of education team in the non-partisan November 7th race.

” … As a Jersey City councilman-at-large, I have witnessed the exceptional qualities of Detective Dejon Morris, Educator George Blount, and Community Leader Alpha Patel, and I believe they are the right individuals to help lead our school district,” Rivera said in a statement.
He praised Morris for his years of service on the police department, noting that he will be a crucial voice for safety an security at the public schools, as well as Blount for along career in education.
“Community Leader Alpha Patel has proven her dedication to the betterment of Jersey City time and time again. Her engagement in our city has had a positive impact on countless lives, and I have no doubt that he will continue to champion the needs of our students on the School Board,” he added, asserting that the trio will bring a welcome fresh perspective to the board.
Rivera is the second council member to endorse the Education Matters team, following Ward A Councilwoman Denise Ridley.
They are seeking three, three-year terms in a field of nine candidates, which also includes the “Children First” team consisting of Trustees Gina Verdibello and Lorenzo Richardson, as well as activist Monique Andrews.
They were just endorsed by former Trustees Marilyn Roman and Gerald Lyons, the latter being a recent former board president.
Additionally, Renes Cruz, who was unceremoniously removed from the Education Matters team after failing to submit 10 valid signatures on the first try, “Sam” Sumit Salia, and Janette Scafidi are each running as independents.
