Baker and Secaucus Town Attorney Kerri Ann Eglentowicz are among the five nominees, which also includes Bayonne’s Daniel DeSalvo, who has served as deputy Hudson County counsel. He is also a trustee for the Hudson County Bar Association.

“We are happy for him. Obviously it will be sad to see him go, but we know he will do great things on the bench for New Jersey,” Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop said regarding Baker’s nomination.

Baker left his gig as a deputy attorney general to join Fulop’s administration early in March 2018, early in his second term.

Baker helped prosecute former state Assemblyman Robert Schroeder for stealing $1.9 million from creditors in February 2017, as well as the case of ex-Paterson Mayor Joey Torres – who had Department of Public Works employees renovate a warehouse leased by his relative while on city time.

Schroeder received an eight-year prison sentence, while Torres was sentenced to five years.

Meanwhile, Eglentowicz has been the Secaucus town attorney for about nine years under Mayor Michael Gonnelli, according to public records. Gonnelli could not be reached for comment on Friday.

In order to become a superior court judge in New Jersey, each nominee must clear the Senate Judiciary Committee, which is chaired by state Senator Brian Stack (D-33, also the Union City mayor), before being confirmed by the full Senate.

  1. No exit visa judgeship for Ravi, again. Also, Robert Schroeder got pinned for his almost $2 million creditor scheme but in Hoboken, Michael Russo is walking around two mil deep free as a bird. Hoboken is special.
