Jersey City Board of Education candidate Sumit “Sam” Salia and council-at-large candidate Mamta Singh announced today that they are trading endorsements in the non-partisan November 4th elections.

“I am proud to endorse Sumit ‘Sam’ Salia for the Jersey City School Board. His life of service, professional qualifications, and personal dedication make him the candidate our children, parents, and taxpayers urgently deserve,” Singh said in a statement.
” … What truly sets Sam apart is his independence and perseverance. Running for the School Board independently for three consecutive years—largely self-funded—shows his genuine passion, integrity, and commitment to Jersey City. He is independent at heart, invested as a parent, and responsible as a taxpayer—exactly the kind of leader our schools need.”
Salia is in a seven-person race for three seats on the volunteer school board, where he is the only indepedent competing against two separate three-person slates.
“The Education Brings Solutions” ticket of Board President Noemi Velazquez, Vice President Christopher Tisdale, and Trustee Afaf Muhammed has the backing of the Jersey City Education Association.
Meanwhile, the second incarnation of the “For Stronger Schools” ticket consists of former Trustee Lorenzo Richardson, Brendan Doohan, and Aimee Sharrock.
They have the backing of three mayoral candidates: Ward E Councilman James Solomon – who is running Singh on his slate – former Gov. Jim McGreevey, and ex-Board of Education President Mussab Ali.
“I am proud to endorse Mamta Singh for Councilwoman at Large. For more than fifteen years, Mamta has been a trusted advocate for parents, children, and newcomers in Jersey City. JCFamilies is connected to over 80,000 families through different channels, creating a welcoming and resourceful community,” Salia added.
“Her leadership, commitment to diversity and affordability, and her historic candidacy as the first South Asian—particularly from the Indian community—to run for this office will inspire immigrant families and future generations. My endorsement is based on her qualifications, leadership, and lifelong dedication to our community.”
Singh is in a 15-person contest for three council-at-large seats, running alongside former Council President Rolando Lavarro and Michael Griffin on Team Solomon.
