The stop will be conducted in the area of Paterson Plank Road and Hope Street on the Jersey City-Hoboken border from 10 p.m. on Saturday, October 28th until 3 a.m. on Sunday, October 29th, the sheriff’s office said in a statement.

“The primary purpose of this checkpoint is not to make arrests, but to promote public safety by deterring drivers from driving impaired. During the checkpoint, officers will look for signs that drivers are under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.”

Hudson County Sheriff Frank Schillari added that extra patrols will be on the road throughout the county to crackdown on drunk driving, while also taking part in the Hudson County Vision Zero Task Force.

He also asked to take mass transit, taxi, car service, have a designated driver, or spend the night at a friend’s house to avoid driving impaired, as well as to contact law enforcement if someone is spotted driving erratically.
