Earlier today, the Hudson County Regional SWAT Team was activated for the purpose of assisting the Union City Police Department with taking an individual with an outstanding arrest warrant into custody at 4535 Broadway, Suarez said in a statement.

Responding officers identified the individual as Isaias Linares Diaz, 51, of Union City, who had an outstanding arrest warrant out of Union City on weapons charges, as well as a charge of criminal restraint.

Members of the UCPD made contact with Diaz, but he allegedly refused to exit the apartment.

With the assistance of the UCPD, SWAT negotiators were able to make contact with Diaz by phone, leading him to agree to surrender to Union City police. He was then arrested without further incident, authorities said.

Diaz has been charged with resisting arrest a third-degree crime, and obstruction a fourth degree crime.

Suarez credited the Hudson County Regional SWAT Team and the Union City Police Department with the arrest.
