UPDATED: Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office, Jersey City police investigating a fatal shooting

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office and the Jersey City Police Department are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred late last night.

“The Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and JCPD are investigating a fatal shooting in the area of Wegman Parkway in Jersey City. More info to follow,” the HCPO tweeted at 1:23 a.m. this morning.

They provided more details on the situation at 10:48 a.m. this morning.

Yesterday, at approximately 11:30 p.m., members of the Jersey City Police Department responded to a report of shots fired in the area of Wegman Parkway between Bergen Avenue and Martin Luther King Drive in Jersey City.

Upon their arrival, officers located a man, later identified as Rashawn Bethea, 28, of Jersey City, suffering from gunshot wounds to his torso area.  Bethea was pronounced dead at approximately 11:45 p.m.

The cause and manner of death are pending the findings of the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office.

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department are actively investigating this case. No arrests have been made at this time.
