UPDATED: Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office investigating fatal shooting in Jersey City

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office is investigating a fatal shooting in Jersey City that occurred late this morning, officials said.

“The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and JCPD are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred at approximately 11am this morning on Grant Avenue and MLK Drive in Jersey City in which one person was killed. More info to follow,” the HCPO tweeted.

At 3:39 p.m., Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez released more information.

This morning at approximately 11:00 a.m., members of the Jersey City Police Department responded to a report of shots fired in the area of 94 Grant Ave., Suarez said in a statement.

Responding officers found a 26-year-old male victim – later identified as Raquan Bass – who had sustained gunshot wound(s) to his upper body and was transported to the Jersey City Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 11:15 a.m.

The cause and manner of death are pending the findings of the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office.

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department are actively investigating this case and no arrests have been made at this time.
