The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office is investigating a fatal fire in West New York that occurred early this morning.

“The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit is investigating a fatal fire in the wooded area near 60th Street and JFK Boulevard East in West New York that occurred earlier this morning. More information to follow,” the HCPO tweeted this morning.
At 1:16 p.m., Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez released more information.
This morning at approximately 1:25 a.m., members of the West New York Police Department reported a brush fire behind the West New York Swim Club in the area of
60th Street, Boulevard East and Anthony M. Defino Way, Suarez said in a statement.
The North Hudson Regional Fire and Rescue Department responded and was able to extinguish the fire. After the fire was placed under control, investigators found the burned remains of a human who has not been identified at this time.
The person was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 4:35 a.m. and both the cause and manner of death are pending the findings of the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office.
A joint investigation by the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and Arson Task Force is actively investigating this case with assistance from the West New York Police
Department.
