“Our thoughts and prayers are with the Hudson County Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation as they mourn the loss of Police Corporal Shawn Williams,” the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office wrote on Facebook yesterday.

“On behalf of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office, we wish peace and comfort to the loved ones of Corporal Williams during this difficult time. #EOW”

Williams began working as a Hudson County corrections officer in April 1992 and most recently served as a housing unit officer.

“Corporal Williams served in multiple capacities over the span of his career and embodied the epitome of a Correctional Police Officer … he will be sorely missed,” says a private tribute post forwarded to HCV.

Williams is the second Hudson County law enforcement officer to die from COVID-19 in the span of a week, with Hudson County Sheriff’s Office Lt. and SWAT Commander Matt Vogel passing away from complications from the virus on Monday.
