The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has awarded over $305,000 to West New York, as well as over $71,000 to Jersey City, for their local homelessness assistance programs.

“The path to self-sufficiency begins with a safe place to sleep and ultimately, an affordable place to call home,†HUD Secretary Ben Carson said in a statement.
“These grants will help service providers across the Nation continue their work of reducing homelessness in their communities and help our most vulnerable neighbors. The Trump Administration is committed to lifting up all Americans and this announcement is yet another example of our unwavering commitment to empower this great nation through investing in our people.â€
In North Hudson, West New York received a total of $305,617, while Jersey City earned $71,065 in federal funding.
HUD Continuum of Care grant funding supports a broad array of interventions designed to assist individuals and families experiencing homelessness, particularly those living in places not meant for habitation, located in sheltering programs, or at imminent risk of becoming homeless.
“The nearly $2.3 million in grants being awarded today to the Garden State by the Trump Administration further contributes to the already record level of funding aimed at reducing homelessness in New Jersey,†added HUD Regional Administrator for New York and New Jersey Lynne Patton.
“Just this past January, HUD awarded $46 million to New Jersey because we recognize the importance of supporting New Jersey’s local homeless assistance programs.â€
