The Hotel and Gaming Trades Council is backing U.S. Rep. Rob Menendez (D-8) for re-election, citing his commitment to the working class.

“Rob Menendez is a proven ally of working people, and we could not be prouder to endorse him for reelection,” HTC President Rich Maroko said in a statement.
“At a time when working people are under attack, we need to send our best fighters to DC. For our members living in the 8th Congressional District, Rob is that fighter.”
HTC represents nearly 40,000 non-managerial hospitality and gaming employees working in all departments, in Northern New Jersey and in New York. HTC’s members come from many nations and backgrounds and speak more than 50 languages.
“I am honored to earn the support of HTC. Our hospitality industry workers are a critical part of our economy, and I have always fought for them to receive the respect, dignity, and rights that they deserve,” added Menendez.
“I will never let up the fight for the right to organize, for better wages, and for the safety of our hospitality workers. I will always stand with organized labor and every working family in New Jersey.”
Since being elected to Congress, the congressman has supported important labor legislation such as the PRO Act and fought for working families to have access to affordable, quality healthcare, stable housing, and a clean environment.
He is also a member of the Congressional Labor Caucus and holds a 100% lifetime score from the AFL-CIO.
The HTC is the second labor endorsement for Menendez this week after shoring up the support of 32BJ SEIU, as HCV first reported.
The incumbent could face a June 2nd primary challenge in the form of former Jersey City Board of Education President Mussab Ali, but for the moment the only other candidate who has filed is independent Richard Barilla.
