The City of Hoboken promoted five police officers and two firefighters before swearing in three new firefighters in back-to-back City Hall ceremonies yesterday.

“Over the past eight years, I’ve had the privilege of attending many ceremonies, honoring our dedicated police officers and firefighters. I am deeply grateful to every single one of them and congratulate those being recognized today,” outgoing Mayor Ravi Bhalla said in a statement.
“While this may be my final public safety ceremony as mayor, my family and I, as residents, will forever be grateful for the service and sacrifice of those here today, their colleagues, and their families.”
During the police department ceremony, City Clerk James Farina administered the oaths of office to Lts. Corrado “Dino” Allegretta and Keith Rotondi as they were promoted to the rank of captain, while Sgts. William Bullock, Jason Falco, and Francis “Duke” McCourt earned the rank of lieutenant.
“The officers being honored today have earned their promotions, as well as the respect and trust of their peers, and the community they serve,” added Police Chief Steven Aguiar.
“Their experience, dedication, and leadership will continue to strengthen our department and ensure we continue to provide the best public safety services.”
Shortly thereafter, the fire department filled City Council Chambers as Battalion Chief Joseph Grossi was promoted to provisional deputy fire chief, and Capt. Michael Stefano was promoted to battalion chief.
Last month, the city council voted unanimously (8-0) to reinstate the deputy fire chief position in place of two captains, as HCV first reported.
Additionally, Jason Blanks, Maximus Richards, and Joshua Santiago were officially sworn-in as firefighters, in front of their family and friends.
“The Hoboken Fire Department is strengthened by those who have already proven themselves as leaders and those just beginning their careers in public service,” exclaimed Fire Chief Brian M. Crimmins.
“I’m proud to lead a team that remains committed to protecting Hoboken through dedication, professionalism, and a strong sense of responsibility”
All of the promotions take effect immediately. The three new firefighters, who graduated from the Passaic County Fire Academy yesterday, also start immediately.
“These promotions reflect years of dedication, professionalism, and commitment to our community,” noted Public Safety Director Kenneth Ferrante.
“The members being promoted have earned the recognition, and I look forward to seeing them continue to lead. I’m also excited to watch our newest firefighters begin their careers, and make their own mark, on Hoboken.”
