The funeral arrangements are set for late Bayonne Police Officer Joseph Giordano, 43, with the Bayonne Memorial Home hosting the visitation and St. Henry’s Church hosting the funeral.

The visitation will take place at the Bayonne Memorial Home, located at 854 Avenue C, on Sunday between 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., with the funeral being held at St. Henry’s Church, located at 654 Avenue C, on Monday at 10:45 a.m.
A private cremation will then be held at the Rosehill Crematory at 792 East Edgar Road in Linden.
“Born on April 17, 1983 to Frances (née Ianora) and the late Louis Giordano, Joe spent many years in Bayonne before recently making his home in Rutherford with his family. A proud graduate of St. Peter’s Prep and Kean University, Joe was truly one-of-a-kind,” Giordano’s obituary says.
“Before embarking on a career in law enforcement, he spent a decade as a Physical Education and Health teacher with Newark Public Schools, where he inspired students through his passion for education. Joe loved working with young people and believed in helping students recognize their potential.”
The obituary also notes that Giordano was a high school baseball coach and also volunteered to assist with the Bayonne Little League before serving as a Peninsula City police officer for 10 years.
“For the last decade, he proudly served the residents of Bayonne with honor, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to protecting others. He wore the badge with humility, courage, and compassion, earning the respect of his fellow officers and the community he so faithfully served,” it says.
“While Joe was proud of both his careers, his greatest source of pride and joy was his family. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Leigh, and an extraordinary father to his cherished daughter, Emma. There was nothing that brought a bigger smile to his face than spending time with Emma—playing, laughing, and creating memories that will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.”
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in Giordano’s honor to the Bayonne Policeman’s Benevolent Association, Local 7, P.O. Box 1303, Bayonne, NJ 07002, with the note “in memory of Joseph Giordano.”
On Wednesday, the Bayonne Police Department said that Giordano “left us unexpectedly,” with Mayor Sharon Ashe-Nadrowski and the City Council offering “support and resources” to anyone who needs them in light of his passing, as HCV first reported.
