Marsi started his career as a patrolman in the Mile Square City in November of 1996, going on to work stints with the detective bureau, the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office, U.S. Department of Homeland Security, and U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the PBA said.
“For the past 8 years, Detective Marsi served as the PBA President. During his time as President, he was able to deliver some of the best contracts that our union has ever seen. It was a solemn moment as I watched him walk out the building for the last time but I am beyond happy that he was able close one chapter in his life and start a new chapter,” they wrote.
“I am lucky to work closely with Detective Marsi over the past few years but I honored to now call you a friend. God speed in your retirement!”
Marsi was recognized for his exemplary service during a 2015 awards ceremony, where he was among seven officers who climbed 16 flights of stairs to rescue a senior citizen from a burning building.
A Republican, Marsi ran for state Assembly in the 36th Legislative District in 2017 and 2018, a special election, before running for mayor of Rutherford in 2019, ruffling some feathers along the way.
He was unsuccessful in all three of those bids for public office.
