At approximately 4:35 p.m. Tuesday, the Jersey City Police Department was notified of a pedestrian struck at the Griffith Street and Sherman Avenue intersection, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said in a statement.

The striking vehicle fled the scene and the 36-year-old victim was transported to Jersey City Medical Center in critical condition.

A preliminary investigation determined a motorist operating a blue and white Toyota C-HR traveled east on Griffith Street, turned left and traveled north on Sherman Avenue, and then turned right on South Street following the collision.

The vehicle was last seen on Palisade Avenue in the area of South Street. The vehicle, pictured above, is described as a compact SUV with a white roof.
