“Please be advised that this morning’s shots fired and vehicular pursuit incident is being investigated by the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office. All requests for information of any sort must be made through that agency,” Police Capt. Eric Amato said early this morning.

The HCPO tweeted at 7:01 a.m. that they were investigating an “officer involved shooting” this morning, but provided few other details.

“The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office is investigating an Officer Involved Shooting that occurred just before 4:30 am in Bayonne in the area of Hobart Ave and E 5th Street. This is still an active scene. More info to follow.”

This afternoon, the HCPO deferred further comment to the AG’s Office, who said the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office had taken over the investigation.

A spokeswoman for the ECPO confirmed they were handling the case, but said no further information was immediately available.

This is the second Bayonne police incident being probed since June, with the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office probing a fatal shooting that involved two officers.

They released the body 911 call and police body camera footage in July and the family of the deceased has since filed a $30 million tort claim with the city.
