UPDATED: HCPO Homicide Unit, Jersey City police, investigating early morning fatal shooting

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office and the Jersey City Police Department are investigating an early morning fatal shooting at an intersection that has seen at least two other homicides this year.

“The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and JCPD are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred Saturday morning shortly after 4 am in the area of Grant Avenue and MLK Drive in Jersey City in which one man was killed. More information to follow,” the HCPO tweeted at 5:37 a.m. this morning.

Raquan Bass, 26, was fatally shot outside of 94 Grant Ave. on July 24th, while Felicia Stewart, 30, was gunned down at the intersection of Grant Avenue and MLK Drive on July 26th.

At 1:13 p.m., Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez provided more information.

This morning, shortly after 4:00 a.m., a patrol unit of the Jersey City Police Department responded to the area of Grant Avenue and Martin Luther King Drive in Jersey City after hearing gunshots, Suarez said in a statement.

The responding police officers found a man with a gunshot wound to the torso.

The victim, later identified as Ishamell McCany, 41, of Jersey City, was transported by Emergency Medical Services to the Jersey City Medical Center and was pronounced dead at approximately 4:20 a.m.

The cause and manner of death are pending the findings of the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office.

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit is actively investigating this case with assistance from the Jersey City Police Department. No arrests have been made at this time.
