“This young man was my neighbor and although I didn’t know him past a neighborly hello, he was very close to many special people in my life here in Hoboken,” Lisa Hamrah Balouma wrote in the GoFundMe page description.

“Chris Garcia died for absolutely no reason; a senseless act of violence, murdered when he tried to break up a fight that didn’t originate with him. Yet another promising young man taken by gun violence, this time right here in Hoboken.”

She continued that Garcia “was an intelligent entrepreneur” and that his family and girlfriend will be selling merchandise from his clothing line at an event in the near future.

The page, which was started yesterday, has a goal of $10,000 and has already raised $6,816 from 101 donors as of 3:38 p.m. this afternoon.

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office is investigating Garcia’s murder and no arrests have been made at this time.

This is the first Hoboken homicide in 2022 and just the second fatal shooting in the Mile Square City since August 2020.

In October, a woman was arrested for attempted homicide for shooting a man twice outside the Hoboken Housing Authority, but the victim ended up surviving.
