The GoFundMe was started by the Guttenberg Policemen’s Benevolent Association Local 88 on Wednesday and has already raised $14,005 towards their $20,000 goal.

“Dealing with ALS is not easy. Not only has it taken a toll on our family’s mental health, it is also extremely costly due to my dad’s needs and the accommodations needed for the disease,” Lauren Garcia, Jesus’ daughter, wrote in the GoFundMe page description.

“To know my father is to love him. He was always surrounded by so much love and I hope that if my father has helped you or been your friend in any way, you will keep us in your prayers.”

She also referred to her father as her hero and said that he has always told her to follow her dreams, as he did when he became a police officer.

The PBA noted that Officer Garcia has served as commander of the Guttenberg Police Department’s Honor Guard and a member of the Guttenberg Police Department’s Special Response Team.

Additionally, they posted an Instagram story this morning indicating that a pasta dinner will be held for Officer Garcia on Thursday from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. at the Guttenberg Community Center, located at 136 69th St.

Both checks and cash donations will be accepted.
