A GoFundMe page has been started for a 43-year-old Union City man that was killed in a North Bergen crash early Monday morning.

“On May 8th, 2023 at approximately at 12:30 am, Manuel Diaz was struck by a vehicle on 75th & Tonnelle Ave. This unfortunate accident took his life. Manuel was a very calm & loving person,” the page description, written by Jose Guevara, says.
“Being a single immigrant living with his sister we are asking for assistance in covering his funeral costs. He will be returned to El Salvador where his siblings & Mother will mourn & lay him to rest, any assistance helps. Thank You Kindly in advance.”
This was the second fatal hit-and-run in the township in four days, with motorcyclist Joshua Huayamave, 23, of North Bergen killed, after being struck by a car driven by Julian Palacios, 30, of Jersey City, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said.
The latter incident, where the decedent is also known as Manuel Diaz-Marquez, marks the fourth traffic-related fatality in North Bergen in 2023.
