Ariel Dumit, 38, of Florida, was sentenced to 30 years in New Jersey State Prison by Hudson County Superior Court Judge Carlo Abad for the 2021 shooting death of Christian Parra, 34, of Jersey City.

In April, Dumit was convicted at trial of murder, possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes, and unlawful possession of a weapon. He must serve 30 years in prison before becoming eligible for parole.

The State was represented in this matter by Hudson County Assistant Prosecutors Erica Bertuzzi and Luisa Florez.

On Sunday, February 28th, 2021, at approximately 8:18 p.m., members of the Jersey City Police Department responded to the BJ’s Parking Lot at 396 Marin Boulevard on reports of a shooting.

Responding officers found a victim – later identified as Christian Parra, 34, of Jersey City – with an apparent gunshot wound to the torso. He was transported to Jersey City Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 9 p.m.

The Regional Medical Examiner’s Office determined the cause of death to be a gunshot wound to the torso and the manner of death to be homicide.
