“On behalf of The Education Matters Team, comprised of George Blount, Alpa Patel, and Dejon Morris, I am thrilled to announce our victory in the Jersey City Board of Education race. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the voters of Jersey City for placing their trust in us and for embracing our vision for a brighter future in education. Our campaign has been built on the principles of transparency, accountability, and dedication to improving our local education system,” Education Matters campaign manager Mike Greco said in a statement.

“We are committed to working tirelessly to ensure that the promises we made during this campaign are not just words but actions that will positively impact the students, parents, and educators of Jersey City.”

Patel, a Ward D committeewoman, was the top vote getter, securing 5,297 votes, with Blount right behind her 5,169. The third place finish was close with Det. Dejon Morris beating Trustee Lorenzo Richardson 4,768 to 4,437: a difference of 331 votes.

Trustee Gina Verdibello secured 4,235 votes, with their “Children First” running mate Monique Andrews getting 3,950.

None of the three independent candidates hit 10 percent of the vote as the Jersey City Education Association flexed their muscle yet again.
