” … Education and providing for our young people has always been a priority of mine and my Team Walker Organization. We have strived to use community resources to ignite a passion in our youth that puts & keeps them on the right track to become productive life long learners,” Walker said in a statement.

He also said that Dr. George Blount’s educational experience, Alpa Patel’s history of building bridges through various community opportunities, and Police Det. Dejon Morris’ 19 years of service, as well as his involvement in nonprofits, will all pay dividends for the district.

“I urge Jersey City residents to elect this team so that these fresh new ideas and plans can help move our school community forward and improve Jersey City as a whole,” Walker added.

As of this writing, the Education Matters team has received endorsements from the Jersey City Education Association, Hudson County Commissioner Bill O’Dea (D-2), County Register Jeff Dublin, Ward A Councilwoman Denise Ridley, and Councilman-at-Large Daniel Rivera.

Their main competition, “Children First,” has the backing of former Board President Gerald Lyons, ex-Trustee Marilyn Roman, also a former acting mayor, the Jersey City Para-Professional Association, and Ward F Councilman Frank “Educational” Gilmore.

That slate is comprised of Trustee Gina Verdibello, Trustee Lorenzo Richardson, and Monique Andrews.

Three independent candidates are also in the race for three, three-year terms: Renes Cruz, who was unceremoniously removed from the Education Matters team after failing to submit 10 valid signatures on the first try, “Sam” Sumit Salia, and Janette Scafidi.
