“On behalf of our entire organization, we extend our sincerest gratitude to Joseph Branco Chairman, Pavel Sokolov Secretary, and the Hoboken Republican Party for their generous sponsorship of our reading and writing sessions with Leah Mermelstein,” Community Lifestyle CEO Louis Quinones said in a statement.

Mermelstein is also a renowned literacy expert with over 25 years of experience, dedicated to translating literacy research into successful classroom practice.

Last month, Quinones set up a GoFundMe page with a goal of $18,500. They are almost there, raising $17,706 from 97 donations as of this afternoon.

While he didn’t say it outright, Quinones spoke at the June 21st Hoboken City Council meeting and indicated that their CBDG funding from the city had been cut by approximately 25 percent.

“This summer, we have the ambitious goal of providing our campers with seven exciting field trips. Be someone’s hero and considering sponsoring one child with a donation of $206, which would cover admission, transportation, and meal expenses,” Quinones wrote in the GoFundMe description.

Those locations include the Liberty Science Center, the Bronx Zoo, and the Museum of Natural History.

“We are proud that the funds we raise as a party are able to support wonderful Hoboken organizations such as Community Lifestyle that make a genuine and lifelong impact on our city’s children,” said Hoboken GOP Chair Joe Branco regarding the $1,500 donation.

“As an organization, we’re proud of their hard work and remain steadfast in our mission to ensure every child receives the tailored instruction needed to learn to read and write. Together, with the support of our community and Leah’s expertise, we’re making a tangible difference in these children’s lives. Thank you for standing with us in this vital cause!”

Branco is also the Republican nominee for the District 5 Hudson County Commissioner race where he looks to unseat Board Chair Anthony Romano, which will be a heavy lift in a solidly blue district that hasn’t gonna red in nearly four decades.

Community Lifestyle was founded in 2017 and serves Hoboken Housing Authority children between the ages of 6 and 15.

  1. I find myself bound in matrimony to a woman of resolute and progressive convictions. However I am man who is more conservative, and I support the Party of Republicans.

In days past, she was deeply engaged in the political landscape of Hoboken, though her ardor has since mellowed. However, I confess trepidation in divulging my covert alignment with those of more conservative persuasions.

Our daughter has now matured, leading me to contemplate a parting of ways from my spouse.

I don’t know why I feel compelled to post this on a website but I know she may likely read this and I take some comfort in finally coming to open discussion with her.

And I extend my gratitude for your understanding.

    • Houston, we have a problem. 😁

People cannot stand that Joe has a good heart and money! Not like some people trying to sell a house and live paycheck to paycheck.

    • Only giving money because its election season – and then references Stick Romano, I guess his rationale for never giving anything back is that it’s always election season for him?

    • Today Tony Soares learns the difference between paying out of a political account and a personal donation. Tony is clinging on to his HPEF donations trying to drum up business to afford his rent. Resorting to personal attacks isn’t particularly a good look for someone who makes his living selling actually successful peoples houses.

      • Poor Baby Pavel, Daddy gonna write you another check? Maybe he’ll let you drive his car too!

Ask your boss for a raise, so DAD doesn’t have to buy you a NEWHOUSE

      • Too bad the “assistant” tax guy and the loud mouth tavern owner can’t accept criticism without attacking people’s homes, appearances and jobs.
What happened when Pavel was sent packing by the public he swore he was leaving town?

        • Yea yea no one cares about your weird obsession this time Tony, it’s time to fade away and move on with your life. So juicy for being a reformer; now just a has been screaming about people half your age.

    • America is truly the land of opportunity when an entrenched political operative like Soares can complain that poor immigrants from the soviet union, in only two decades are now considered trust fund baby. The Republican way works, apparently Dem handouts on the other hand leave a 60 year politico scrounging to pay their rents. God Bless Capitalism. Grift Harder Tony and maybe Stick will get you a board seat

  2. Well well well… lookie there
The sanctimonious Hoboken Republicans got 5000 from Frank Pupie Raia…

Could it be the same Pupie that was convicted and served time for vote by mail?

    Nah…

  3. Please stop picking on my fellow LGBTQIA and Drag Queen story hour hating Young Republican.
