Hoboken Mayor Ravi Bhalla raised over $75,000 at his official kickoff for a state Assembly seat in the 32nd Legislative District, his campaign says.

“I am humbled by the high level of support that is building for my candidacy, since I entered the race three short weeks ago,” said Mayor Ravi Bhalla.
“I know I will have the resources to tell primary voters directly about my track record as mayor of Hoboken, earning national recognition for leading the way on affordable housing, safe streets, climate change, and building a welcoming and inclusive community.”
Bhalla said he wouldn’t be seeking re-election just under a month ago before making his bid for Assembly official a few days later.
Assemblyman John Allen, a former chief of staff for Bhalla and a co-sponsor for last night’s event at City Bistro in Hoboken, then formally announced he wouldn’t be seeking a second term, all of which HCV first reported.
“As our assemblyman, with laser focus, I will do all I can to curb the unacceptably high cost of living for Jersey City and Hoboken families and to make New Jersey a clear and true bulwark against the ill-advised actions of the Trump Administration.”
Councilman-at-Large Joe Quintero, also a chair of the Hoboken Democrats and another event co-sponsor, Allen, and Mamta Singh, a Jersey City council-at-large candidate on Ward E Councilman James Solomon’s ticket, spoke in favor of Bhalla’s candidacy last night.
The LD-32 Assembly race has gotten crowded quickly on the Democratic side, with Assemblywoman Jessica Ramirez running on Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop’s ticket as part of his bid for governor with activist Katie Brennan running as an independent.
The Hudson County Democratic Organization (HCDO), which includes state Senator Raj Mukherji (D-32), are backing Hoboken Public Library Director Jennie Pu and Jersey City Director of Buildings and Street Maintenance Crystal Fonseca in the June 10th primary.

Vijay has always advocated for wildly inflating fundraising totals for the press – doubling or even tripling them. So it’s likely that the real total is 40k max
Still begs to question, who gave even $1 to support this unethical, ineffective politician?
What’s important is that Ravi proves his bonafides and stands up bravely against Orange Man. He needs to dig in and fight for all his constituents and protect them in his Sanctuary City declaration.
Go Ravi! You can do it.
So what is his Plan?
Will Mayor Bhalla be required to give up his second job law firm if elected ?
