A Bayonne teacher has been charged with hitting a student during an altercation on school property at the end of January, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez announced.

Joseph Mingoia, 68, of Bayonne, is charged with endangering the welfare of child and simple assault, Suarez said in a statement.
He was arrested at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Secaucus and released pending his first court appearance, which is tentatively scheduled for Friday, March 22nd.
The investigation found that on Monday, January 22nd, two students were involved in an altercation on school property.
“After multiple staff members intervened, Mingoia struck a female juvenile in the head with a closed hand. Mingoia has been on administrative leave since the incident occurred,” Suarez added.
She credited the Special Victims Unit and the Bayonne Police Department with the investigation and arrest.
