The Bayonne Police Department will conduct a driving while intoxicated checkpoint during Memorial Day Weekend next week, Police Chief Robert Geisler announced.

While not disclosing the exact location, Geisler indicated that the checkpoint will be on John F. Kennedy Boulevard between 10:00 p.m. and 4:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 27th.

This effort was made possible through the New Jersey Drunk Driving Enforcement Fund which is one of the programs that provide finances for checkpoints and roving DWI patrols to police departments throughout New Jersey.

Additionally, Geisler reminds everyone that DWI remains one of the leading causes of fatal motor vehicle crashes and urges everyone who plans on consuming intoxicants to be responsible and use a designated driver or car service for transportation.

  1. My aunt was killed by a drunk driver at a time when the penalty was not more than a slap on the wrist. I think that this is a positive step in the direction of discouraging drunk driving. We now live in a world of ride sharing and public transport. Don’t drive drunk!
