The Bayonne FD was dispatched to 1171 John F. Kennedy Blvd. at approximately 3:26 p.m. on Sunday on a report of smoke coming from the walls, Fire Chief Keith Weaver said in a statement.
“Arriving companies found fire in the bathroom of a first floor apartment in the multi-unit two-story building. Firefighters used a hand line to extinguish the blaze, which was brought under control at 3:54 p.m.,” he added.
“All occupants of the fire building and adjoining buildings were safely evacuated during operations and all residents were allowed to return. No injuries were reported.”
Weaver concluded that while a fire investigation is an underway, blaze appears to be accidental in nature at this time.
