Bayonne Fire Department swears in 4 new recruits, promotes 3 new captains

The Bayonne Fire Department swore in four new recruits and promoted three on their roster to captain at a City Hall ceremony yesterday.

Benjamin Barsolona, Brandon Gomez, Leo Nardone, and Diana Smith are now Bayonne firefighters, with this graduating class dedicated to late retired Battalion Chief Peter McMonagle, a 28-year veteran of the department who died in January 2022.

Additionally, Firefighters Justin Basile, Kevin Cotter Jr., and Jon Kiniery were promoted to captain, while Firefighter Tim Lynch was promoted to fire officials.

Prior to these proceedings, Fire Chief Keith Weaver recognized the heroism and bravery of a number of Bayonne firefighters who responded to the fatal Newark ship fire on July 5th.

Those recognized are Battalion Chiefs Rob Seeburger and Vin Parlavechio, along with Captains Leo Smith III and Kevin Cotter Jr., as well as Firefighters Tom Weber, Scott McKevitt, Louis Pacyna, Brandon Kuhl, and Jeff Spengler.
