Bayonne BOE honoring four, two posthumously, at 8th annual ‘Field of Heroes’ ceremony

The Bayonne Board of Education will honor four people, two of them posthumously, at the 8th annual “Field of Heroes” ceremony tomorrow morning.

The event will take place tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. in the Alexander X. O’Connor Auditorium at Bayonne High School (Lunch to follow in the West Gym). The keynote speaker will be Colonel Nathaniel F. Conkey, US Army War College Fellow.

Moreover, the district will be accepting the Medal of Honor from the family of William Shemin. The district will be unveiling the Medal of Honor during the ceremony.

The honorees are Matt Klimansky, James P. Hennessey, Angelo Squitieri, and Edoardo “Junior” Ferrante – the city’s office of emergency management coordinator.

They are all U.S. Army veterans, with Hennessey and Squitieri accepting the honor posthumously.

“I am honored to take part in this event and am deeply proud of our staff and students for demonstrating such reverence and respect for our veterans,” Superintendent of Schools John Niesz said in a statement.

“I would like to personally thank members of the Shemin family for their gracious donation in honor of the school that bears his name.”
