“A solid waste facility contract monitor assigned to work at Advance Environmental Recycling Inc. in Newark was injured while performing his duties with the HCIA at roughly 7:30 a.m. on Friday,” said HCIA spokeswoman Caitlin Mota.

“A private garbage truck, operated by Direct Waste Services, made contact with the employee and he was brought to University Hospital [in Newark] for treatment of his injuries.”

While she did not confirm that Gullace was the employee in question, several sources told HCV he had a third surgery today after sustaining a “gruesome” leg injury while at his county job on Friday.

He now has a fourth operation scheduled for Thursday, sources said.

On Saturday, Gullace’s wife, Donna, posted on Facebook “thankful for our amazing friends and family,” which was met with dozens of responses offering thoughts and prayers.

Additionally, a couple of posts on Sal Gullace’s personal Facebook page are wishing him a speedy recovery.
