Authorities are probing a fatal Jersey City crash last night where a pedestrian was killed crossing Routes 1 and 9, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez announced.

Last night at approximately 9:50 p.m., the Jersey City Police Department responded to the area of Sip Avenue and Routes 1 and 9 on reports of a pedestrian stuck.

Responding officers located a man with multiple injuries and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

A preliminary investigation revealed the pedestrian was crossing the roadway when he was struck by an SUV that was traveling north. The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene. The pedestrian was subsequently stuck by a second vehicle.

The identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification of his next of kin.

The Jersey City Police Department is actively investigating with the assistance of the Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit.
