UPDATED: Authorities investigating fatal shooting inside Jersey City smoke shop and lounge

Authorities are investigating a fatal shooting inside Jersey City’s All Stars Smoke Shop and Lounge, located at 152 Danforth Ave., early this morning.

“The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department are investigating the fatal shooting of a male in the area of 152 Danforth Avenue in Jersey City. More information to follow,” the HCPO tweeted at 1:27 a.m.

This marks the fourth homicide in Jersey City this year and at least the 13th shooting, according to stats released by the city.

At 12:16 p.m., Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez released additional information.

This morning at approximately midnight, the Jersey City Police Department received a report of shots fired in the area of Danforth Avenue, Suarez said in a statement.

Upon arrival, responding officers located an unresponsive man – later identified as Khalil King, 23, of Fayetteville, North Carolina – inside the All Stars Smoke Shop and Lounge located at 152 Danforth Ave. with an apparent gunshot wound.

He was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 12:16 a.m. The cause and manner of death are pending the findings of the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office.

The HCPO Homicide Unit and the JCPD are actively investigating this case and no arrests have been made at this time.
