After a fairly calm and composed election by Hudson County standards, District 31 Assembly candidates Angela McKnight and Nicholas Chiaravalloti defeated their four opponents in the Democratic primary election.Â

McKnight and Chiaravalloti move to the November 3 general election, where they will face off Republicans Matthew Kopko and Herminio Mendoza.
In the primary, they defeated Bruce Alston and running mate Washington Flores, as well as the team of Joe Conte and Ray Regalado. Low voter turnout was the theme of the election, given rainy weather conditions for the entire day.
Endorsed by the Hudson County Democratic Organization, McKnight is the founder and CEO of Jersey City non-profit group AngelaCARES, while Chiaravalloti is a Bayonne attorney who works for Parsippany law firm Weiner Lesniak.
