“A heartfelt farewell to three decades of memories at Iron Monkey. Join us in honoring our legacy as we bid adieu to a cherished chapter,” the Exchange Place establishment, which opened in 1995, wrote on Instagram.

“Enjoy a 50% discount on vintage tap beers as we reminisce about the good times. Stay tuned for an exciting lineup of final events!”

The post, signed by owner Stephen McIntyre, continues that their last day open will be December 31st and thanked everyone for their patronage over the years.

“After nearly three wonderful decades in business, it is with mixed emotions that we announce the closure of the Iron Monkey Bar & Restaurant,” he wrote.

“Our final service will be held on Sunday, December 31, 2023. Until then, we will continue to welcome you from Tuesday to Sunday, with Mondays being our designated day of closure.”

The post has compiled over 300 likes and dozens of comments wishing the staff well.

“Steve, it was a great honor and a lot of fun interviewing you for the Jersey Independent 10 years ago! (And you lasted a lot longer than they did!) And I really appreciated and enjoyed the fancy beer you sent me home with,” wrote Jack Silbert.

“The Titus Andronicus video shoot on the roof will always stay with me. And your Thanksgiving tradition will be a role model of compassion and community spirit.”

Since 1996, the Iron Monkey hosted a free Thanksgiving meal for Jersey City residents who needed it.

“No one invited me for a Thanksgiving meal, Iron Monkey did,” a patron told HCV in 2015.
