NJ Dem LGTBQ caucus deems anti-DeFusco Hoboken blog post ‘homophobic’

The New Jersey State Democratic Committee’s LGBTQ Caucus has deemed a blog post that was critical of Hoboken 1st Ward Councilman Mike DeFusco, mocking shirtless pics he had posted on social media, that appeared on a Hoboken-based blog as “homophobic.”

A Facebook photo posted by New Jersey State Democratic Committee LGBTQ Caucus Chair Lauren Albrecht.

By John Heinis/Hudson County View

“The use of homophobic and disturbing language against anyone, including an openly gay councilman, cannot be dismissed or tolerated in any of our neighborhoods,” NJSDC LGBTQ Caucus Chair Lauren Albrecht said in a statement.

“Comments like this are purposely intended to make negative and passive inferences to the LGBTQ community and only aim to set us back in the progress we have made to achieve true equality. Councilman DeFusco has always been a great friend to the LGBTQ community and now it’s time for everyone in Hoboken to take a stand against remarks that attack a public servant for his sexuality.”

The blog post in question was featured on the Grafix Avenger website, which has been operated for years by Nancy Pincus – a staunch supporter of former Mayor Dawn Zimmer and now Mayor Ravi Bhalla.

“Make today count! Out on a run! What next? Chin-ups on the men’s room stall? Arm-pit sniffing? Oh, we are enthralled,” the post said, making fun of DeFusco’s recent shirtless posts on social media.

She has faced criticism and been referred to as “a paid political operative” in the past couple years due to being paid $1,200 by the 2017 Bhalla campaign for printing campaign literature and designing palm cards.

“Over the past four years, I’ve been proud to work alongside the administration to advance equality in Hoboken with progressive legislation and open conversations. Unfortunately while they Mayor promotes Hoboken as an accepting city for everyone, he’s complicit in spreading this divisive language by allowing his paid political blogger to make attacks like this from behind a screen,” DeFusco said.

“If we wish to continue identifying Hoboken as an inclusive community, we must all take a stand against comments like this, regardless of where we stand politically.”

In response, Pincus told HCV that DeFusco is lying since “I am not the mayor’s, nor anyone’s, paid political blogger.”

She also noted that her site is not monetized and that the opinions expressed on her blog “are wholly my own.”

Pincus posted on her blog today characterizing the situation as “whistleblower retaliation” for recently making note that DeFusco had been sending campaign literature to City Hall.

“Timing is everything. This spurious attack comes right after my disclosure that the DeFusco campaign has been sending mailers to City Hall addressed to unknown persons,” she wrote.

“Enough of this mail has arrived to attract the attention of City Hall employees. This weird smear on a local blogger is a retaliatory effort to derail further investigation of this peculiar mail.”

According to voter registration records, about a dozen people are registered to vote with a  Hoboken City Hall address, 94 Washington St., and New Jersey law allows homeless people to vote out of “a shelter, park or any place you usually stay,” according to the ACLU of New Jersey.

Pincus also noted that she is supporting DeFusco’s opponent, Migdalia Pagan-Milano, one of five members running on Bhalla’s slate, the challenger is an out lesbian.

Editor’s note: This story has been updated with a comment from Nancy Pincus, who runs the Grafix Avenger blog.

  1. Nancy attacked Defusco with a number of homophobic slurs and yet has no comment. Instead of an apology she goes on a rant about anti Jewish runoffs and the fact that she supports a lesbian instead.

If you are looking for pure comedy gold you have found it. She clearly owes Mike Defusco an apology for her slurs but in the meantime sows her true self. Disgusting. Disgusting to the core.

    • The blood flow to your brain aint working right these days. Aren’t you a public official? Don’t you suck up taxpayer $ every month? Speaking of disgrace, check a mirror POS.

      • Look, it’s Nancy attacking a stroke victim Got milk?
We all should admire her consistency. None of this is a personal attack, it’s “satire.”

        Yes, she’s a lousy liar.

        • Give Nancy credit for attacking a stroke victim? Definitely. Not a day after the news reports about her rancid bathroom fantasies about Mike DeFusco doing pull-ups in the men’s bathroom stall she’s writing about a recovering stroke victim’s blood flow not working right.

You can’t make up this kind of vile. She’s just plain vile. She’s making Hoboken411 look Pulitzer worthy since she’s so damn vile as the day is long.

    • NJ Dem LGTBQ caucus should announce a protest in Hoboken. This is beyond the pale and Ravi Bhalla and Nancy should face the community response. Take action!

Dear friends and neighbors – Like many of you, I have come to read Mile Square View (http://hobokenhorse.com) regularly. And today I am asking for your support for it and its editor, Roman Brice, who, among others, has been victim of the darker side of Hoboken’s harsh political landscape in the worst way. With your support, I would like to help raise $10,000 to help offset his continued costs relating to a frivolous legal case and encourage him to continue being the important voice that he is to our community. Thank you to those who have already contributed $600 towards this goal since last night!

While he continues to provide us with information and transparency on Hoboken’s local policy and political issues, Roman has been fighting a lengthy, frivolous legal assault, including personal threats and phony criminal charges, all attempts to shut down his MSV site. This almost five year battle (extended by various delay tactics), has in fact taken its toll in terms of time and money – costing him personally over $100,000 (costing other co-defendants in the suits/claims 3-4x this!) All of the suits and charges filed against him were deemed frivolous and /or thrown out of court by various judges. At this point the continuation of the legal case primarily relates to his potential opportunity to recover just a small portion of his legal fees awarded.

If you read MSV already, then you know that MSV generally backs what is known as the “reform” side in Hoboken which supports honest elections and good governance – both for which I fight tirelessly. MSV’s breaking stories and exclusive features have received millions of views and have contributed to reform’s success over the years. In 2011, one of MSV’s breaking stories on Hoboken voter inconsistencies led to statewide attention and a NJ Attorney General investigation bringing a longstanding issue out of the shadows. In 2014, Roman testified as a witness for more than a day in Hudson Superior Court on identifying voter irregularities in local elections relating the a 2013 Hoboken ballot question. Roman has been writing about and fighting the battles that we continue to fight in every election.

If you do not read MSV, then I encourage you to do so. This is an important political year for Hoboken, with upcoming Mayor, City Council and School Board elections. Hoboken residents do not have one central place to receive information about candidates and the elections, but rather rely on a few local websites and MSV is a critical site for such information.

Only a few may know this, but before I made the decision to run for Hoboken City Council, I struggled with the idea of campaigning in the harsh political landscape here in our Mile Square city. As I was contemplating running in the summer of 2015, I received a call from Roman, who at the time I did not know, to discuss my possible candidacy. He provided me with some helpful insights on how to navigate through our tough political environment. Insights that I drew upon that helped me to ultimately make my decision to run. He was, and continues to be, an advocate for our community.

So thank you for considering to give back to someone who I believe has been working tirelessly for all of us and is an invaluable contributor to making our harsh political landscape, a little less harsh.

      Warm regards,

      Tiffanie

PS – I do not always agree with what Roman writes. And even what he writes about me. And you may not either. But freedom of speech and the value of our media and news sources are both fundamental to strong communities. And we need more voices in Hoboken.

    • Ravi has quite a bit to say about many things but suddenly quiet on this. What a shocker.

What I find amazing is that Ravi would pay for that bad photoshopping and ‘artistry’ that goes on over on that site. It’s comically bad! Who goes to that blog and says to themselves “I gotta get me some of THAT!”

But hey, that’s our mayor and his ‘team’!

    • Though no one wants to advertise with him now, wonder why?

  2. Is this press release from the same LGBTQ Democratic Caucus that Councilman Michael DeFusco re-gifted $4,000 of the more than $9,000 in campaign contributions from Frank “Pupie” Raia after he was convicted on multiple counts of voter fraud this summer ?

  3. Where’s the apology to the Sikh community from Councilman DeFusco! Patronizing a racist blog! How many press releases has Councilman DeFusco posted there and why does he continue? What does Vision Media have to say about THAT! We know a “Reform Resistance” photoshop when we see one!

Get an eyeful of THIS Lauren!

      • Because he’s saving the money for VBMs he buys by the 100? What about Vision Media? He pays them plenty. And if you don’t think they’re on the blogs, well that’s just adorable.

      • Councilman DeFusco’s Vision Media slate mate Councilwoman Fisher fund raises for Roman political web site. (see above)

Fisher never addressed his anti-Sikh post that actually went internationally viral for it’s truly disgusting depict.

Fisher has also ignored the constant disgusting over the top personal attacks on Nancy.

  4. Namely, political season.

Anyone who knows GA knows she’s a million miles from a homophobe. And the LGBTQ Caucus could have discovered that with 5 minutes of google instead of however long it took them to render judgment.

No one discussing homophobia here or elsewhere with respect to GA is actually interested in homophobia here or elsewhere. They saw an opportunity to hit a political opponent and pounced on it. Beginning, middle and end of story.

Now they have to figure out how far to run with it. Keep flogging the story and you drive people to the site where they’ll find out you concocted the whole thing. And they’ll read stories about those candidates you’re supporting that you don’t want anyone to read. Tricky business.

LGBTQ Caucus, here’s the homework you didn’t do. Consider not doing favors for political hacks in the future. Because you know what that makes you…?

      • you guess someone’s name and that makes their words disappear? the internet had such promise once. but now it’s the leading source of human intellectual limits.

    • These are nice, but all she has done is advertise for and prop up a mayor who is supportive of an inclusive community. Nancy on her own is not because using her own words “her opinions are her own” on her site and she was more than comfortable when she uses her own voice to attack an elected official, not because of any specific issue, but because he is gay. It is that basic. And if you are going to do that you are going to fall on the wrong side of activist groups. She should just apologize instead of pivoting away and trying to deflect which really just makes her look like she is unhinged and a cat that got backed into a corner. What is not unexpected but still troubling because of the local politics is that our Mayor, who has won accolades for his support of the LGBTQ community, is not saying a word. Even more eye raising is that Migdalia hasn’t said anything. The STATEWIDE LGBTQ caucus, which does not very often take people to task, made a statement about how offensive a local Hoboken blogger is, and our current leader and someone looking to be a community leader cant even say a word. Crickets. So apparently inclusion means their own special club and not all of Hoboken.

      • No they aren’t “nice”. They’re who she really is and what she really thinks of LGBTQ issues.

The homophobia is a complete fabrication. But that statement is directed to honest readers, which necessarily excludes you.

      • Wrong again Nancy! Migs is in it for the easy pay and rubberstamp vote at night. Then back to the office reporting to the mayor in the day. Easy peasy. Nancy was denounced and it’s the right thing for Hoboken. We all can and should.

    • Facts are facts.

When Roman’s disgusting racist attack went internationally viral and that list has been around on line for sone time.

We know Councilwoman Fisher is still fundraising to keep his political website that has supports her and her Vision Media slate mates and on a daily basis attacks anyone oppose them.

        • It’s Nancy repeating her old tired lies. She wants to change the comments about her; so she’s spamming the crap out of this page. The usual. The news is about Nancy, Ravi Bhalla’s paid political operative being denounced. Rightly so!

          • the exact signed verbiage of tiffany’s attempt to raise funds for hoboken horse are provided above. calling everything lies when the proof is there for all to see just makes you sound dumb.

      • Hi Nancy, only you in Hoboken are guilty of bigotry. No one else. Got milk? Lie away!
You just hate actual satire when it comes to the cost of your paymaster. Total hypocrite.

  5. Migdalia DENOUNCE Nancy Now!

The comments about the bathroom stall and arm pits is UNQUESTIONABLE Homophobia.
To respond with anti-semitism because Mike held the door at a Synagogue and supported a runoff that OVERWHELMINGLY won is typical Ravi Race Baiting

Now the Sh1t has hit the fan, Ravi’s selection of a lesbian as cover for years of attacks on Mike will never change the fact his supporters hate Mike for reasons that are more than just his politics..

        • It’s Nancy of course over and over. You’d think she would stay on her crap blog but no such luck. She’s going to talk to herself here with different names, lying every which way for the next week or so until no one can take it anymore. Who needs facts when Nancy will fill the comments section with false and defamatory?

  6. While I can’t speak for all the gays, this is BS.

This little snake gets he statewide LGBT Dem Caucus to play attack dog for him when he can’t show up at pride events held in his own ward. Not that he’s done much for or been involved with the LGBT community locally.

GA’s comments could have been made at any male regardless of sexuality. PERIOD.
GA has defended MDF when other make snarky comments that are homophobic or allude to matters that a off limits in civil discourse.

Should have just called him an InstaThot. That applies to all sexualities.

    • But she didn’t. She used traditionally anti-gay stereo types for the basis of the post. She’s always pointing fingers at other for being racists Look how she did it in her defense of the offensive post.

Showing up for press events is not a demonstration of being supportive of the LGBT community. Was MDF supposed to miss work for that?

She should just post an apology and be done with it.

  7. Best comment on this site today is the person who said “She’s a star of hate.” Nancy is hate filled and that hate is all consuming. I lost respect for her two years ago but now its even worse. She has just become the most hate-filled voice in Hoboken and Hoboken deserves so much better than her. She breeds hate as evidenced by the commenters on her site.

  8. Nancy Pincus is a disgrace. This is not the first time she attacked Mike Defusco for being gay. She has done this several times including the “got milk” post depicting Mike Defusco with cum dripping from his face. Thus it is a pattern and requires introspection that Nancy Pincus clearly lacks. And because she lacks that introspection she is rightly criticized by me and others. She has that right to write whatever she wants but we reserve the right to call it the way we see it.

Nancy Pincus is a bigot. That is the takeaway from this. Will Ravi Bhalla condemn this hate speech.

Yes its hate speech. Or will Ravi Bhalla hide behind the veneer of supporting the LGTBQ community while saying nothing, doing nothing and thus condoning her behavior. She has clearly crossed the line here and by Ravi doing nothing speaks volumes about how he really treats the LGTBQ community. They are just another political chit the play with when convenient but otherwise nothing.
    That is the real Ravi.

    • Everything with Kurt takes on overtly sexual, perverse meaning: “Got Milk” ad = “dripping cum.” Gross pig.

In Kurt’s teeny tiny mind, he believes that only straight men/women can be in a “Got Milk” ad. Now that’s bigotry. KKK Kurt in all his vicious glory. The oversized turd photoshops of Ravi’s head impaled upon bollards– now THAT is some hateful, violent, sick imagery. Sick twisted Jumbo Turd!. He should be yanked from the NHSA, PRONTO.

    • You are wrong about that. Someone from Jen Giattino’s campaign contacted Mike’s partner’s employer. It was roundly criticized by GA who nevertheless did not support Defusco. Crickets from MSV.

        • MSV virorously supported Jen. Ethics would dictate that he decry trying to make trouble for a gay man with his employer – even if he supported the campaign that did it. He didn’t. It makes a lot of the posturing about LGBTQ bias on a site that has never mentioned Pride month, marriage equality or any Pride-related events ring a bit hollow. As a self-proclaimed auditor you might notice things like that. Guess not.

  9. Not once on this thread has Nancy addressed her comments about Mike Defusco. She has called me a giant turd, a pervert and make fun of the fact I had a stroke. All deflections really? When will Nancy Pincus realize she at least came across as homophobe with her remarks. Nancy? you there?
