A New York man was arrested last week for the alleged sexual assault of a 10-year-old Union City girl, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez announced.Â

Luis Bescome, 31, of East Elmhurst, New York, was charged with sexual assault endangering the welfare of a child, escape, possession of controlled dangerous substance (marijuana), defiant trespassing and obstructing the administration of law or other governmental function, Suarez said in a statement.
On Saturday, January 13, shortly after 11:30 p.m., members of the Union City Police Department arrested Bescome at an undisclosed location on 39th Street, authorities said.
Bescome was wanted in connection with an alleged sexual assault of a 10-year-old female
victim outside an apartment building in Union City that occurred on January 12, officials said.
Therefore, on January 12, Union City Police Department detectives contacted the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit regarding an alleged sexual assault of a 10-year-old female victim by an unidentified male on the steps of her apartment building, police said.
The victim was subsequently able to get away and alert an adult member of her household who immediately contacted the UCPD, authorities said.
The initial investigation led to a suspect being identified as Bescome, who was subsequently located at a nearby shelter. He was transported to a Hudson County Prosecutor Office in Jersey City, officials said.
A short time after arriving at the facility, Bescome fled the area to an unknown location. Despite this fact, he was apprehended within 24 hours by law enforcement officers, police said.
Additionally, Suarez credited the Union City Police Department for their assistance in
the matter, as well as the NJ State Police, the Maywood Police Department K-9 Unit, the Jersey City Police Department and the Hudson County Sheriff’s Office.
