Dashawn Mixson, 20, of Jersey City, turned himself in to detectives from the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit late this afternoon. He was arrested without incident, Suarez said in a statement.

Mixson has been charged with murder, conspiracy to commit murder, possession of a firearm for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a firearm in violation, authorities said.

Mixson is the second man arrested in connection with DaJour Riley’s murder. Earlier this week, Varnell Mohammed, 19, of Jersey City was arrested and hit with charges identical to those of Mixson, officials said.

On Tuesday, March 28, at approximately 11:45 a.m., Jersey City police responded to the area of Garfield Avenue and Union Street on a report of shots fired. Officers also then responded to Jersey City Medical Center after being notified of the arrival of a gunshot victim, police said.

The victim, Riley, 19, was shot multiple times inside a vehicle near the aforementioned intersection. He was transported privately to the JCMC and was pronounced dead at at approximately 2:30 p.m., authorities said.
