Assembly Speaker Vincent Prieto (D-32) told Hudson County View that building casinos in North Jersey is imperative for the Garden State to earn back the revenue that we have recently lost.

“The state of New Jersey needs revenue,” Prieto said when being interviewed at The Chandelier banquet hall in Bayonne after Angela McKnight and Nick Chiaravalloti easily won the Democratic Assembly nominations on Tuesday.

Prieto gave his feelings on the new piece of legislation introduced by three Democrats, including Jersey City Assemblyman Raj Mukherji (D-33), that would allow state voters to decided whether or not the Legislature can pass laws on establishing casinos in Bergen, Essex and/or Hudson Counties.

“And I think casinos here and important because it’s a universe that we can get revenues that … the people here are no longer going to go to Atlantic City: they’re going to Yonkers in New York, Bethlehem in Pennsylvania.”

“We need to capture that back, and I think, here, you know, in Jersey City, there is the Meadowlands – or even in Essex [County] – I think the three county approach is a great approach and the dialogue now is to see is it on ballot in ’15 or ’16: that’s the dialogue we’re gonna have now.”
