Michale Roman, 26, of Newark, was charged with receiving stolen property, aggravated assault, eluding and resisting arrest, according to Police Capt. Janine Foy.

At around 12:52 a.m. on Saturday, July 15th, Roman was arrested near the intersection of 20th Street and Avenue A after being caught driving a white Ford Econovan that was stolen out of Jersey City, authorities said.

Bayonne police had the van stopped near the intersection of 18th Street and and Avenue A when Roman attempted to flee the scene, forcing an officer to jump out of the way of the moving vehicle, officials said.

Roman then fled north on Avenue A, turning left onto 20th Street, before crashing into three parked cars on West 20th Street, police said.

The suspect was caught trying to flee on foot, punching and kicking at officers as they attempted to place him in handcuffs, authorities said.
