Miguel Cotto honored in Jersey City as part of Hispanic Heritage Month

The only Puerto Rican four-division boxing champion of all time, Miguel Cotto, stopped into Puccini’s in Jersey City on Friday night to be honored as part of Hispanic Heritage Month.

The packed house gave Cotto – the current Ring and WBC middleweight titleholder – an extremely warm welcome, including proclamations from State Senator Sandra Cunningham (D-31) and Assemblyman Carmelo Garcia (D-33).

Officials also giving Cotto heavy praise were Freeholder Anthony Romano (D-5), Bayonne Mayor Jimmy Davis – who was joined with Councilman-at-large Juan Perez – and Jersey City Councilmen Daniel Rivera and Khemraj “Chico” Ramchal.

After receiving a duffle bag-worth of awards, Cotto was surprised with a Jersey City championship belt before addressing the crowd in Spanish.

Afterwards, the champ was kind enough to sign boxing gloves and pictures for those on hand before calling it a night.
