The West New York Police Department, Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office, New Jersey Northern Regional Medical Examiner’s Office and Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office all responded to the scene beginning around 8:00 p.m. yesterday.

The prosecutor’s office, who is heading the investigation, said little on the incident as of late last night, with a spokesman only saying that the department is “investigating a suspicious death in West New York.”

However, according to a source, who spoke under the condition of anonymity since they were not authorized to speak on the matter, preliminary evidence indicated that the man was killed on Tuesday.

The Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office was called in for their K-9 unit, which had a Bloodhound trace the man’s scent all the way down to 46th Street before losing it, the source said.

The man also owned a white Maltese, who was recovered from the apartment by West New York Animal Cruelty Investigator Geoff Santini. He said the dog would be available for adoption in the immediate future.

Multiple officials on the scene declined to comment, citing an ongoing investigation.
