LETTER: ‘Liberal progressive policies’ no longer consider priorities of the working class

In a letter to the editor, Hudson County GOP Chair Jose Arango responds to a recent letter criticizing Democratic machines in New Jersey, expressing his belief that that progressive policies have become wildly unpopular.

Dear Editor,

Dan Laine’s recent letter highlights valid concerns about the aging political machinery within the New Jersey Democratic Party.

However, the real issue is not merely with the “machine” Democratic establishment but with the growing influence of liberal progressive policies that have strayed far from the priorities of working people.

These policies have eroded trust and shifted voter sentiment, prompting many traditional and moderate Democrats to reconsider their allegiance.

Progressive policies that appear disconnected from the everyday concerns of working families have created a rift within the party.

While discussions on inclusivity, social reform, and equity are vital, the approaches taken by the progressive faction often seem to prioritize social ideologies over the core needs of residents, such as safety and economic stability.

This perception has led to disillusionment and diminished voter enthusiasm, particularly in communities like Jersey City, where the priorities are clear: public safety, reliable economic opportunities, and quality of life.

Red tape hampers small businesses, making it difficult for entrepreneurs to thrive and contribute to the local economy.

Taxes are higher due to progressive agendas that are continuously funded, placing additional financial burdens on working families.

Overdevelopment is causing segregation and pushing out those who have lived in these communities for generations, disrupting the social fabric and sense of belonging.

Tuesday’s election results make this trend undeniable.

Many registered Democrats in Hudson County, including Jersey City, supported Republican candidates as a direct response to policies that they feel have abandoned them.

These voters are not leaving the Democratic Party because they have changed—they believe the party has abandoned them.

The loudest voices in the Democratic Party are now those of the progressive wing, whose policies do not align with the priorities of the majority. This shift has nothing to do with machine politics, but rather the impact of horrible progressive policies.

The immigrant and Latino community, a vital and diverse part of Hudson County, sent a clear message in this election. They want safety and policies that improve their quality of life, not lofty social initiatives that overlook the most pressing community concerns.

This shift reflects why notable figures such as Tulsi Gabbard, Robert Kennedy Jr., and Elon Musk, once aligned with Democratic ideals, have chosen to support the new Republican party.

Take a look at California’s progressive reimagining of public safety policies. Proposition 36 overturned investment in social programs over law and order was rejected by 70 percent of its residents.

By reclassifying nonviolent crimes to felonies, the state’s policies demonstrated the pitfalls of prioritizing ideology over practical governance.

I urge those who are disillusioned with the direction of the Democratic Party to consider joining the modern Republican Party, which values public safety, community stability, and pragmatic governance.

The recent results in Jersey City and Hudson County demonstrate a call for leadership that puts the well-being of families first. It’s time to acknowledge that the path forward lies in prioritizing safety, opportunity, and a better quality of life for all.

Hudson County Republican chair

We don’t give a flying fuck about equity, you have us confused with the democrat machines you defend in this letter. You take a paycheck from the democrat scum pushing and energizing the anti American DSA filth throughout our state. The new Republican party has no room for RINOS or imposters who occupy Republican positions of power at the behest of democrat gangsters in the HCDO. Fuck off. #BEANERSFORTRUMP

  3. The democrat’s most stunning failure is the lack of self-awareness that prevents them from seeing that their policies and behavior are largely what served as the catalyst for the rightward shift. More than the hectoring and fanaticism, the most repulsive thing of all about the Democrats is the endless deceptions.
