Jersey City Medical Center retained the Jersey City EMS contract to provide basic life support after a year of controversy surrounding ambulance services in the city.
The Jersey City Council voted 6-0-1, with Councilman Rivera and Councilwoman Coleman absent, and Council President Rolando Lavarro abstaining.
The vote came after a six-member committee unanimously recommended JCMC receive the contract over CarePoint/McCabe following a new RFP that was issued amid public outcry when a prior panel recommended that the EMS contract be awarded to CarePoint.
During the vote, Ward A Councilman Frank Gajewski and Ward E Councilwoman Candice Osborne ripped into what they called “fear-mongering” and “misinformation” around the Jersey City EMS contract.
