The Hoboken Fire Department swore in four new recruits at a City Hall ceremony yesterday afternoon, following their graduation from the Toms River Fire Academy.

Kurtis Rivera, Christian Rosso, David Walker, and Christopher Willis all took the oath of office to join the Hoboken Fire Department on Thursday.
“These four new firefighters are a shining example of what makes Hoboken so special. They are making a brave commitment to protect their own families, neighbors, and friends, showing us, what true heroism looks like,” Mayor Ravi Bhalla said in a statement.
The swearing-in strengthens the Departments ranks to 129 members who respond to over 5,000 calls a year.
“I’m always inspired when residents step up to serve their city, in any capacity, but especially as first responders,” added Public Safety Director Ken Ferrante.
“There is not a doubt in my mind that these four firefighters will make their families proud, leave a mark on the fire department, and make a real difference in the community.”
The new Hoboken firefighters are now set to begin in-service training immediately.
“I’m incredibly proud to welcome these men into the Hoboken Fire Department, as they begin their careers,” noted Chief Anton Peskens.
“I’m confident they will meet all the challenges that come with this job with courage and heart. I look forward to watching them learn, grow, and become leaders within this family of firefighters.”
Why does Bhalla call Anton Peskins Fire Chief when he is actually a Battalion Chief. And, why is he giving Peskins a retroactive raise to $300K per year? Is it because he is a Bhalla supporter and campaign donor? Or, is it because he covered another Battalion Chief’s hiring of subordinates to work for his private real estate business and for his breaking COVID protocol during the pandemic? At the same time Bhalla is violating a court order to reinstate the real Fire Chief, Brian Crimmins. Wasting taxpayer money is nothing new for the mayor.
