Hard times have fallen on Galaxy Recycling, Inc. of Jersey City, as public records show the business recently filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy.

Signs of financial woes for Galaxy have been apparent for some time, including a June 2014 report in mycentraljersey.com that Somerset County had filed a lawsuit to collect almost a million dollars from the Jersey City firm.

Union City Mayor Brian Stack – who also represents a large portion of Jersey City in the New Jersey State Senate – ripped Galaxy’s service and claimed that “they’ve been a nightmare” for Union City in a commissioners meeting.

According to their website, Galaxy includes Galaxy Carting & Recycling, Galaxy Recycling Center, Galaxy Recycling North, Galaxy Brokerage, Galaxy Packaging and Line Star Tube and Core.

A call seeking comment from Galaxy regarding the bankruptcy filing was not returned.
