“I want to tell you that I sincerely want to do this job. I sincerely want to be a trustee on the board of ed. I’m fair, I do my homework, I don’t have a personal agenda unless it involves a teacher, parent, taxpayer, and most of all, kids. That’s my agenda: all about the kids,” Desmond said during her remarks in front of supporters.

The former councilwoman also reminded her guests of the importance of “5J – MJ,” signifying her position on the ballot, also calling it “heartwarming” that she was appointed to the board in February after coming up short in being elected last November.

“I’d really like to serve a full, three-year term and I can only promise you I will do the right thing, all the time,” Desmond added before shouting out her fellow BOE Trustee Chris Munoz.

“Just give me a shot, you won’t be disappointed, I’m a not frills person and you can always find me,” she concluded.

Desmond, along with Carol Cruden and Denis Wilbeck, is one of three incumbents seeking four, three-year terms on the board on November 8.

Those in attendance included 3rd Ward Councilman Gary La Pelusa, former Assemblyman Jason O’Donnell, ex-Business Administrator Peter Cresci, Bayonne Police Athletic League Executive Director KT Torello, political operative Pat Desmond, who is Mary Jane’s brother, among many others.

  1. MaryJane was my best friend in high school. She’s my lifelong friend today. We don’t keep up much but every time we do, the discussion is always about living a life of service, our collective kids and how to make the lot and lives of others better. She deserves the chance to make a difference. More importantly, my old town deserves this kind of honest brokering on behalf of our community. Experience and integrity – she’s the whole package.
