Angelina’s Closet has opened at North Bergen High School, providing free prom attire to needy students, including dresses, shoes, handbags, jewelry, and accessories.

“This is a beautiful example of how a community can come together to turn loss into something truly meaningful,” Mayor Nick Sacco said in a statement.
“Angelina’s Closet not only honors Angelina’s memory, but it ensures that every student has the opportunity to feel confident and celebrated on prom night.”
At its grand opening, nearly 300 dresses and multiple tables of accessories were available for students to browse and take home at no cost.
Launched earlier this month, the program quickly grew beyond expectations thanks to overwhelming support from North Bergen residents, creating a boutique-style experience that students have embraced with excitement.
Angelina’s Closet was created in memory of Angelina Maria Gardner, who passed away as an infant and would have attended her senior prom this year.
Her parents, Milagros Camacho and Donald Gardner, have long honored her memory through charitable efforts, and this initiative continues that legacy by bringing joy and support to local students.
“This initiative was born from a love that never had the chance to be fully expressed,” added Camacho.
“Grief is love without a place to go, and Angelina’s Closet has given us a place to put that love by helping other young women feel special, confident, and celebrated on a night that means so much.”
Yesterday, the mayor and board of commissioners formally recognized Angelina’s Closet and the Gardner and Camacho families with a proclamation, honoring their commitment to the community and the meaningful impact of the initiative.
“This initiative has already had a tremendous impact on our students,” noted North Bergen High School Principal Richard Locricchio.
“Seeing their excitement and confidence as they prepare for prom in a supportive, welcoming environment is truly special, and we are grateful to everyone who helped make this possible.”
Operated in coordination with the school’s Guidance Department, Angelina’s Closet will remain open during select lunch periods in the weeks leading up to prom.
Donations of dresses, shoes, handbags, jewelry, and accessories are still being accepted at North Bergen High School, located at 7417 John F. Kennedy Boulevard, as the program looks ahead to becoming an annual tradition.
