Juan Sanchez Moya, 26, of Union City, is charged with first-degree endangering the welfare of a child, third-degree endangering the welfare of a child, and distributing obscene material to a person under 18, Suarez said in a statement.
He was arrested at his residence and transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility pending his first court appearance.
The 17-year-old victim reported meeting the defendant through an online gaming program.
The investigation found the defendant exchanged sexually explicit material with the victim.
The crimes did not occur at the West New York Middle School and the victim is not a student in the district.
Suarez credited the Special Victims Unit, with assistance from the Union City Police Department and Hudson County Regional S.W.A.T. with the investigation and arrest.
