West New York man charged with sexually assaulting North Bergen woman


A West New York man has been charged with sexually assaulting a North Bergen woman he met through acquaintances hours prior, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez announced.

Emil Figueroa-Blanco, 22, of West New York, is charged with one count of aggravated sexual assault, Suarez said in a statement.

He was arrested at the Hudson County Correctional Facility, where he was being detained on an unrelated matter, and remains in custody pending a detention motion.

The crime occurred on Sunday, June 4th at a motel on Tonnelle Avenue. The 22-year old victim met the defendant through acquaintances in the hours leading up to the assault, authorities said.

Suarez credited the Special Victims Unit with the investigation and arrest, with assistance from the North Bergen Police Department.
